Silvia Francescon is Senior Associate at ECCO for Climate Change and Foreign Policy
Silvia is an expert in international relations and has been working on biodiversity and climate change since 1995. She has been with ECCO since July 2023.
She has an honours degree in Law and a Master’s degree in International Environmental Law from SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) in London, after a specialisation in environmental law at Leiden University.
Within ECCO, Silvia takes care of international and diplomatic processes, contributes to strategy setting and networking.
Prior to joining ECCO, Silvia was Director of the Rome office of the European Council on Foreign Relations, coordinator of the G8 task force at the Council Presidency, negotiator of international agreements at the Ministry of the Environment, and coordinator of the UN Millennium Goals Campaign. She has also worked on environmental policies at the OECD, the WTO and the European Commission and has advised several governments involved in multilateral processes.
Silvia directs the ecology programme of the Italian Buddhist Union and is a researcher on deep ecology and rights of nature at the NICHE centre of the Cà Foscari University of Venice. She is regularly invited by companies, public administration and organisations for masterclasses and courses on ‘women empowerment’. She co-founded Women in International Security and EquALL.
Silvia is a mountain enthusiast and yoga scholar, of which she is a certified teacher.
