Laura Marinelli is a Researcher Economics and Statistics in Governance at ECCO.

Laura holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Sapienza University of Rome and a Master’s degree in Environmental Economics from the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. In both degrees, her theses focused on climate policy, particularly the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and its impact on economic and financial systems.

Following two brief research experiences, first at the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), then at the University of Bologna, where she worked on topics related to international climate finance and the circular economy, Laura completed a PhD in Science and Management of Climate Change at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Her doctoral research explored sustainable finance, net-zero climate targets and climate policy, and their effects on economic and energy systems. During her PhD, Laura was a visiting scholar at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and at the Centre de Recherche en Économie et Statistique (CREST) at École Polytechnique in Paris.

Before joining ECCO, Laura was a Research Fellow at Ca’ Foscari University, working on a project focused on the EU Taxonomy for sustainable activities and its impact on financial markets.

Her research interests lie in climate policy and its broader effects on economic and financial systems and society. She is particularly interested in the concept of a just transition – one that aligns environmental and climate sustainability with social justice.
