ECCO at the Milan NetZero Summit 2025: advancing the energy transition

As public spending priorities shift, geopolitical competition intensifies, and the focus on competitiveness and (re)industrialisation increases, the sustainability agenda is being reshaped.

In this context, the Milan NetZero Summit will bring together industry leaders, innovators and policymakers to discuss solutions that turn these challenges into opportunities for accelerating the decarbonisation of our economies. This comes at a pivotal moment as net-zero industries, energy-intensive sectors and green power stakeholders work to reaffirm the energy transition as a priority.

The event will be held at the Allianz MiCo Conference Centre in Milan, starting on 14 May with the Milan NetZero Summit and developing into a series of vertical conferences on 15-16 May 2025.

ECCO is contributing to NetZero Milan as a knowledge partner. In particular, we will be organising two vertical conferences on 15 May:

9.30-13.30: Industrial electrification: barriers and opportunities for decarbonising low heat processes

The Italian manufacturing sector is responsible for 22% of national emissions, with 63% deriving from the direct combustion of fossil fuels. Electrifying production processes presents a key opportunity to reduce these emissions while strengthening national energy security and competitiveness. However, many industries still face barriers to this transition.

Speakers and participants will examine challenges and opportunities associated with electrification, while identifying synergistic policies and actions—at both the national and EU levels—to build a coherent framework that supports industrial electrification.

14.30-18.30: Green competitiveness: the future of industry and finance in Europe

Mitigating global warming and decarbonising the economy have become the driving forces behind a new industrial revolution based on clean energy, triggering a transformation of production systems and a reconfiguration of the global competitive context which can no longer be reversed. With the Green Deal, Europe has assumed a position of international leadership in shaping policies to limit greenhouse gases, but it has struggled to keep pace in terms of growth and productivity.

This session, jointly organised by ECCO and the Italian Sustainable Development Forum, will examine the future of European industry and finance within this evolving context. The discussion will pay particular attention to recent European Commission initiatives aimed at strengthening EU competitiveness, including the Competitive Compass, the Clean Industrial Deal and the Omnibus Package.

These sessions, alongside ten others, will provide a valuable opportunity for sharing insights and collaborating on innovative solutions to advance the energy transition.
